"Montini is one of only three teams, and the only Catholic team in Division 2A to quality for the State Meet for the past nineteen consecutive years," said Mrs. The team earned numerous ribbons and garnered the 3rd Place trophy at the Marmion Invitational, prior to finishing in 3rd place at the Regional Meet giving them a ranking of 11th in the State (Division 2A). Montini's top six math students: David Batka (senior, Lombard), Sarah Zimmerman (senior, Berkeley), Heather Sledzinski (junior, Westmont), Kylie Boyer (senior, Downers Grove), Yiqing Miao (junior, International student) and Ayaan Dhir (junior, Lombard), competing in the AA Level, led the team to a 4th Place finish at the MTA Loyola Invitational in February. In addition, five seniors were recognized as being four-year Math Team Members:ĭavid Batka (senior, Lombard), Matthew Hejny (senior, Bolingbrook), Allen Nilson (senior, Lombard), Rafael Ortiz III (senior, Elmhurst) and Sarah Zimmerman (senior, Berkeley).Īlong with other members of the Bronco Math Team, the seniors listed above secured a 4th Place finish (out of 21 schools) at the Lemont Invitational in January with David Batka (senior, Lombard) and Allen Nilson (senior, Lombard) earning 1st Place Honors at this event. Inducted into Mu Alpha Theta, National Mathematics Honor Society, on this evening were: "We were all so grateful to be able to congratulate each other, laugh with one another and celebrate our awesome year of math!" Christine McManus, who also moderates the Bronco Math Team. "While it saddened me greatly to not be able to celebrate with them in person, it truly warmed my heart to see all of their smiling faces on my screen," said Math Department Chair, Mrs. Montini Catholic Math Scholars and inductees were honored at Montini Catholic's first ever virtual Mu Alpha Theta Induction and Mathematics Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 6th.
